Welcome to the Nelson Physical Activity Center (NPAC)

The Nelson Physical Activity Center was opened in 1986 and named after the sixth President of Chadron State College and his wife, Dr. Edwin and Avis Nelson. The building contains 72,500 square feet of floor space and serves many functions including, instruction, health and fitness, recreation, athletics and entertainment.

Facilities

You are advised that participation in supervised and unsupervised activities offered within these buildings may result in personal injury. These injuries may range from a slight bruise or scratch, to broken bones. Internal injuries that could cause brain damage or paralysis, injuries to the spine that may cause quadriplegia and other types of catastrophic injuries that may even result in death are also a risk. It is your responsibility to: (1) follow all facility use rules and regulations and (2) have sufficient skill and mental health to participate safely.

CSC assumes no responsibility for injuries or damages received in connection with the use of Chadron State College facilities.

NPAC Rules and Policies

Cardiovascular Room

The NPAC has more than two dozen pieces of equipment for cardiovascular training, including treadmills, elliptical machines, stationary bicycles, stair climber, and a rowing machine.In addition to strength training equipment, a dozen weight machines are arranged in a circuit. These machines are selectorized, meaning their level of resistance is adjusted by moving pins or levers.

The Cardio Theater system has been added to each piece of new cardio equipment. This feature allows users to connect any stereo headphone to the equipment's wireless receivers, select a wall-mounted TV and adjust the volume. For additional cardio exercise, spin bikes are available for use in the dance room. Workout DVDs are available to check-out at the front desk.

Weight Room
  • Know your personal strengths and capabilities.
  • Do not over lift and injure yourself.
  • Do not drop or bang weights on floor or plates of weight machines.
  • Do not waste time in areas when others are waiting.
  • Please use other lifters as spotters.
  • Do not lean free weight plates against walls, benches or other weight machines.
  • Absolutely no smoking, chewing - spitting, eating or beverages allowed in weight room.
  • Stools and benches will remain at their designated stations.
  • No chalk allowed in weight room.

Other rules and regulations as posted will be followed or otherwise directed by weight room supervisor.

Arena
  • The track area is available to validated CSC and Facility ID Card holders during scheduled open hours.
  • All patrons are required to wear jogging, running or court shoes on the synthetic rubber floor.
  • Absolutely no smoking, chewing, spitting, eating or beverages allowed in this area.
  • The inside lane of the track is 165 meters, 9.6 laps is equal to one mile.
  • Walkers please use the inside lanes.
  • Runners and joggers please use the outside lanes.
  • No radios allowed in this area unless used with headphones.

Other rules and regulations as posted will be followed or otherwise directed by weight room supervisor.

Locker Rooms
  • Please turn off water when finished with shower.
  • Be cautious of slippery floor surfaces in shower area.
  • Please place trash in receptacles.
